A Beautiful Sabbath

I stayed up way too late last night trying to figure out how to get my talk off the obstreperous computer. I finally googled the problem: "Screen black on Microsoft Surface Laptop." Three possible solutions came right up. The first was press down on the power button for 20 seconds. It was a little too easy to work.

Nevertheless, it worked! Within a couple of minutes everything had been restored. The first thing I did was send the talk to my email and SK's so that I could call it up on my phone and read it from the phone. Hey, that's what all the young people do. But I am so paranoid about it not working and having to fumble with it in the middle of a talk, that I have shied away from it.

But I had no choice today. The computer sprang to life, but alas, the printer simply will not print without the proper ink cartridge installed.

We were on Zoom, which I must say is so much easier that in person. I sat comfortably at the desk with my phone right in front of the computer and gave the talk. I dressed up, but seriously I could get away with only dressing up - from the waist up.

The computer worked great, and my phone stayed with me, and the talk went along fine. I spoke about light, and just barely skimmed the surface of a profoundly complex topic. I read that a very excellent gospel scholar on his deathbed said that he wished he could have a "redo" of his life of research. He would have abandoned every other topic and studied to understand light.

I believe that would be an excellent pursuit, and have decided to focus on light with my scripture study for the next couple of years. With the scientific knowledge of light at this point, I am even more fascinated by the power of light. Section 88 describes light in verses 6 - 13. Those verses could be an entire semester of study.

After I spoke, SK spoke - about the power of darkness! We never collaborated about our subjects or our talks, and ended up giving talks about polar opposites. His was very interesting, as he described what we know of Satan and his power.

From there we attended Zoom Sunday School - excellent as always. This ward has the most marvelous Sunday School lessons, and the discussions are amazing as differing viewpoints come in. After Sunday School, our missionaries conducted a meeting about The Book of Mormon for returning and new members, and we heard some beautiful testimonies.

In the evening, we walked over to Adam and Madeline's flat, where we delivered the last of our small Christus Cubes. Dave and Deb gave them out to each of the missionaries as a Christmas present in 2020. They are so beautiful. They had a few left and brought six to us. We have carefully given them out to Brits (well, except for Bishop Felin on his birthday, who is a Finn and speaks English like a born and bred California boy). We figure someone who wanted one and who lives in the States could easily get one from Deseret Book.

We visited with them for nearly a half hour. They are so cute. We are having a very difficult time saying good-bye to all these young people who have been such a big part of our lives for nearly 2 years.

Later in the evening, we tuned into a Zoom call and heard Lauren give a talk about her mission. It was the best mission talk every. She was so dedicated. We loved hearing her, seeing her bright shining face and learning about the people she taught. I can see that this mission has already been a high point of her young life and will no doubt be a strength to her throughout the rest of it.

It was the perfect ending to a beautiful Sabbath.
