Senioritis
You know, a trip into London is a grand thing. And there is so much to do in London. We went to that great city today for Senior Family Home Evening, which occurs on the first Friday evening of every month. This was our second! They didn't have them for a year and a half - COVID prevented them.
The group were kind enough to move it to Friday evening, because all three of the Young Adult senior couples are quite involved with their Young Adult Family Home Evening on Mondays. We enjoyed last month's and were happy to go in to July's this evening. Because of the time of day, the drive was two hours in and later in the evening, it was only an hour and forty minutes back.
Still, it is quite a time commitment - nearly four hours in the car to join the gathering for two and a half hours. SK loves to drive, and I enjoy seeing England, but it was a lot of time on the road today.
We have become close to the Roskelleys - a couple from Logan Utah who are serving in Cambridge. She is delightful, with a quick sense of humor and kind of a no-nonsense approach to life. She is also very efficient and good at many things. Most importantly, she is just plain nice and comfortable to be with. I have a feeling that if we had lived in the same area and been the same age, we would have been very good friends in school.
But we can be very good friends here in the mission field, and perhaps see each other in Utah or Arizona. SK gets along very well with Elder Roskelley too. They sincerely enjoy each other's company. We have reservations to go together to see Downton Abbey's castle a month from now. Nothing available before then! And we hope that restrictions will lift sufficiently by then that we can do that.
Guess what they did today? They got up very early in the morning, and got themselves on the train and into London to do some sightseeing!!!!! She took a little bag of makeup to freshen up with before our Family Home Evening, and instead of making something at home, just before coming to the church, they stopped in a grocery store and purchased some items, assembled a salad in the church kitchen and arrived looking put together and happy. They had a marvelous day.
I was aghast. Neither SK or I even thought about doing that. We walked to the store here and then I prepared a broccoli salad, and we left for London around 3:30. We could have been in London!
We had a potluck dinner, and it was fabulous. After dinner, we went around the circle and introduced ourselves; we had two new couples, one of whom were our new president and companion. In total, we had nine couples. We also told about miracles we have seen recently on our missions. Many told about the miracle of just being able to be here....which is truly one of our miracles too.

I told them all about Matt, telling them it may be an ongoing miracle, or it may turn out to be nothing. The cute thing is that the new president already knew about Matt because he had met with all zone leaders today, and our zone leaders told him all about him!
We traveled home and as we approached Oxford around 10 p.m. we saw a glorious sunset.

Perfect ending to the day.
