Last Day of House Arrest! Ends at Midnight
First of all, I thought I would answer a few questions...
Erin asked:
1. Did Dad get broken up with our anniversary and the young missionaries celebrating with us?
-Absolutely!
2. Why did you drive into London for the great mission meeting at Hyde Park?
-Dad will always choose to drive, given a choice. I would always choose the train.
3. Have you thought about using Andes Mints with those wonderful chocolate cookies (Rolo Cookies)?
-Sadly enough, there are no Andes Mints and while I haven't looked around very much, the only mints I have found are After Eight Mints. We have them in America. I can get Andes Mints on Amazon for $17.50 for 9 1/2 ounces, plus shipping - which is out of sight. For the Carmelitas, Kim's caramel dip always has worked well, but I just tried to get too clever. I should have just warmed it up!
4. Will you be happy to come home to clear blue skies?
- It will be an adjustment I know. England, its climate, its landscapes, its dramatic weather, and its people have wrapped around my heart. I will never be quite the same.
5. What is Freedom Day?
-That is the designated day when all restrictions will be lifted. Right now, people are saying that it will be July 19, but we keep hearing that there will still be restrictions for some time, like imposing isolation on anyone who has been exposed to a positive COVID case. And when travelers from America will not be required to self-isolate is still up in the air.
For today, more of the same as yesterday. Beautiful rain and dark threatening skies, brilliant sunlight doled out in careful bursts, and cool temperatures. I almost don't mind being sentenced to house arrest. But the clock is ticking down, and I am here doing little as a missionary. I am definitely keeping busy. Believe it or not I made Carmelitas again. We have several events in the next few days that I will contribute food to, and since those little cookies freeze so well, I thought they would be good to have.
SK did some shopping for fresh fruit and veggies, washed the car and filled it with gas. We will travel into London tomorrow for zone meeting with our new president and his companion. It is a good thing they are comparatively young. Zone conferences are every day this week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. They include training, lunch and personal interviews with each missionary - possibly each companionship.
Dave described his schedule as "unrelenting." I have marveled that he was able to keep up with it. President Thompson seems very energetic and capable - it will be so interesting just to see what he will bring to the mission. I am certain that he has come to this place for such a time as this, and will lead just exactly how he should lead. Whether or not he changes a lot or a little from Dave and Deb's time here, it will be right for this mission.
We are just so happy to be here for a little while longer.
