COVID - Again, and Goodbyes

I began this fine rainy day by removing the COVID app from my phone. I received the solemn warning just before hitting the "delete" button again "You may not receive notices when you have been exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19. I wished there had been somewhere that I could have typed in, "That's the point."

However, the news this evening is full of dire warnings from scientists and people in the medical field that opening up on July 19 could have serious consequences. Hospitalizations and deaths are on the rise again and have reached highs similar to earlier when COVID was just taking hold. They believe that if everyone gets out into the open, throwing away their masks it would open the door to a new strain. This was one paragraph of oh-so-many on the news:

An Opinium poll for the Observer found that 73% of people now believe wearing masks on public transport should continue while 50% said that “freedom day”, when the vast majority of other controls are due to end, should be pushed back again beyond 19 July. This compared with just under a third (31%) who think the government should go ahead as planned. Only 10% think restrictions should have been lifted earlier.

Speaking of few restrictions, we went to a lovely little party of sorts at the Westenscows, from 5:30 tp 8 for all the people who will be departing in the next few months. It was held this evening because within a couple of weeks the Westenscows, our Bishop and a few others will be gone for a month or two - returning to America to visit family.

This beautiful little yard is unusually private and large for one so close to city center.

Their home looks like these from the street, but then opens in to that lovely yard and then a very large kitchen with a huge island and two ovens!!!

We also have several dynamic young couples who have finished their education here and will be on their way back to Utah by mid-August, and young singles like Emma who will also be gone by August. I am not sure anyone will be left here!

But it was lovely to spend the time with them. We had some great visits with some of our favorite young adults, and lined up going out to dinner with them in the coming two weeks. I am not sure that there will be anyone here after the beginning of August.

Time will tell.
