Little Things
We (mostly SK) spent the better part of our day helping missionaries. Our local Oxford Elders are in lockdown. A new young missionary arrived yesterday from the States, came directly to Oxford and is now in isolation with Elder Reynoldson for ten days. They have nine left.
He has a sim card, but no phone. Each missionary is responsible for bringing their own telephone, and the mission provides a sim card. Elder Bowen didn't bring a phone with him, and called this morning wondering if there was any way we could obtain one for him.
SK walked over to their apartment, picked up his credit card and pin number and walked to the mall. He went into three different places and couldn't find a shop that would sell him a phone without a monthly contract. He came home, and then drove to Newbury, a half hour away to deliver a package for Elder Day (we brought it home with us from London). It took him about an hour and a half round-trip.
| Of course, SK had to stop by to say hello to Bill, but almost didn't see him. He was lurking to the side, waiting for lunch. |
While he was trooping around town, and driving around the countryside, I was at the computer working on the lesson. This week will be easier than last week, and next week's will be easier than this week. It will get better and better - I hope. I have read some sweet comments from class members. As part of the requirement, they must post answers to thought questions in the reading material, and also comment on other people's answers.
After lunch, we both set out for a large "BEST" type of store where we were able to find a phone that worked for him. It was a beautiful day....just the right temperature to wear a coat. We walked three miles SK walked five miles today - and by the time we got home, we were both worn out.
| As we walked, we once again met Bill's cousin, who was so busy eyeballing fish in the cold water, that he didn't even acknowledge us! |
Afterwards, we joined a mission Zoom call that was an hour and a half, which was superb.
Like all the others, it was a full day of little things.
I'm sure we will sleep well tonight.
