Thanks for the Sabbath Day - and Doing "The Madsen"

I am curious how church will be after COVID has slunk off the front pages of history.  It has dominated the news for so long, and there are still dire warnings about a resurgence. The Spanish Flu just seemed to disappear after two years, and perhaps COVID will too. I have read that it will probably always be with us, like the flu.

We have not been to church in person since last September. I went exactly once before lockdown went into effect.  It looks like there may be in-person church starting on May 3, and then going ever other week after that. That would be for sacrament meeting. We had Zoom Sunday School today.  There were about thirty people in attendance and there was a very thoughtful discussion that I found quite interesting.

I couldn't help but think that we have all gotten used to sitting on the couch in comfortable clothes (although SK and I wear Sunday attire). Only about a third of attendees have their camera on, meaning in the little window that says their name is a black square instead of a live video.  We always have our camera on.  But think how easy it is to attend if you are not seen. You can eat breakfast, you don't have to comb your hair, you can watch lying down!  You can answer without being seen, just a faceless voice.  I wonder if people will be happy to going back to sitting in hard chairs in the chapel - sitting primly in their dressier clothing.  I guess only time will tell.

We had the usual meetings, and then I did some corresponding with several young adults about upcoming events, and with other people about other things. Later in the day, we walked over to St. Thomas Church, where the jungle appears to be reclaiming all graves as well as the church.  It is a sleepy little church, out of the way, and peaceful. I filmed a 13-second video of SK and he filmed me.  We got them off to our sister missionaries who will piece them into a video with everyone else in our zone. They will post it on Facebook pages for this part of England.

The day is drawing to a close, and it can't come too fast.  I am pretty worn out from yesterday. I walked nearly five miles in all of our sight-seeing, and some of that was up the steep hill to look out over the Dover cliffs.  It was worth the hike, but I was sad that SK didn't go with me.  He was down with the other husbands ordering lunch, which we ate on the run as we made our way to Dover Castle.

I'm so grateful that I am healthy enough to do things like that, and that I can still hike up a steep hill, and that I can endure a five-mile hike.  SK handles it even better than I do.  He can walk and walk and walk.  We are so very blessed.  But today, I am so tired!  And happy not to go anywhere.

On another note -  Elder Reynoldson has coined a new term:  "The Madsen."  All of our little zone gets a kick out of SK when he does a double flex.  I don't know how you would describe it, but here is a picture of the elders giving it a go.  Whenever someone reports a positive thing at zone meetings, SK would do the little double fist sign.  They have all begun doing it - even the sisters.
