Praise for the Sabbath Day

Have you been to FamilySearch.org recently?  The home page where you sign in is phenomenal.  If you scroll down, before you ever create an account or sign in, there are a few activities that are all kinds of fun.  You can search a name.  Try it...just put in a name of an ancestor with the info you have and search.  What comes up will floor you.

What was happening in the world, information about the country that ancestor lived in, what the surname means, a chronological history of the person based on everything that has been inputted on their page, ancestors, descendants, dates, travel, places and pictures....all on one beautifully-put-together page.  There is even a place where you can put your face into a photo of a costume and hair style of the time.  Just line your face up with the picture on the screen and push the button.

It can't get much easier to do family research.  It is truly amazing.  What is really exciting is what will be happening this week at RootsTech.org.  So many classes that it will take you an hour just to look through and decide.  You might only go to one session.  That's OK!  You can attend every single class over the course of the next year.

I was happy to be able to share that with a sister from the ward this afternoon via zoom.  It is amazing.  We both opened up in the meeting link, We talked face to face for awhile, then I pushed "share screen" and instead of looking at me, she was looking at my computer screen!  I went to FamilySearch.org and demonstrated how easy it is to do everything these days, as opposed to even five years ago.

In 2018, her mother passed away.  A day before the funeral, her daughter died, and then her sister died within a few weeks.  She is still reeling from that.  And of course Great Britain is nearing the year mark of the close-downs.  This is hard.

She has been feeling a very strong sense of wanting to do family history, and more than anything, she wants to take her daughter's name to the temple.  Her daughter was in her 20's.  I think that would be healing.  She has completed the 6-week temple preparation course and loved it.  So today, she and I got together and I showed her a few of the amazing things to get started.  I think she was genuinely excited.

We spent some time talking and getting to know each other.  What a dear lady she is!  She promised that just as soon as she is ready to do more than what we did today, she will call.  She thought she would look at RootsTech.org also.  I think she will love it.

We attended our "sacrament meeting" via zoom.  It was magnificent.  Both talks were so inspiring that I couldn't quite soak it all up.  After that Sunday School fit nicely into the messages we received earlier.  More inspiration.  And then we had our meeting with our missionaries and all the people they are teaching.  It was all....every single minute wonderful.

Then the meeting with the dear sister and family history.  I have been richly blessed all day long.

Ah, okay, I'll attend some of Roots Tech. Dang! What do I got to do? How do I sign up? Our ward conference was yesterday and our bishop invited us to do one hour of family history work a week. I'll see what I can do...
