A Possible New Career - for Both of Us

We are having a heat wave!  It got up to 50 degrees this morning.  What will I do if they have record temperatures this summer?  This lovely little apartment on the third floor has windows facing north in every room.  The rooms are all in a line, except for a little entry way and a central kind of a hall that leads to all rooms.  So it is a bit difficult to get good circulation going.

Our first suspicions came last year when we first got here.  It was September 2019 and utterly gorgeous.  Cool enough to wear a lightweight jacket everywhere.  Nights were almost cold.  But there are four fans, two floor models and two table-sized fans that seem almost unnecessary.  But we haven't been here in July.  We heard that there were several days in July that were unbearable.  Combine moderately high temperatures (90 degrees) with very high humidity (it was 100 percent last week - no rain) and no air-conditioning (most places don't have it) and you have a recipe for disaster.

Last summer in July, I just quit walking early in the morning.  We were in the habit of getting up well before the sun, to beat the heat, but I found that any temperature over 80 degrees was just too hot for me to be out walking 3 or 4 miles.  I would get home and be almost sick.  I do not do well in the heat.

So we will see what happens and pray for an unusually cool summer!

It was a productive day, and an enjoyable one.  The evening was also good. we met with the sister missionaries and someone they are teaching....all of us on Zoom.  They taught a wonderful lesson about Family History and Temple Work.  We listened and they often invited us to share our thoughts on something.  The man they are teaching is 23, and his parents are divorced.

SK told him that we have been married 52 years and counting, and it kind of shocked him.  Like many people his age, he assumes that happily ever after is all about fairy tales.  We told him about the concept of a triangle representing our relationship.  I am on one lower corner, SK is on the other lower corner, and Jesus Christ is at the top.  As we both work to be closer to Christ, we clome closer to each other.

Institute was about repentance and The Atonement of Jesus Christ. It was excellent.  I used to think that repentance was a punishment.  I've come to realize that it is one of the most beautiful gifts to come through the Atonement.

My newest hobby is taking apart vacuums and putting them back together.  The sister missionaries here said their vacuum was broken, so we switched out the extra one here for theirs, but before we did, I took it apart, cleaned the filters, thoroughly cleaned all moving parts and then put it together.  Voila!  It worked like a charm....and picked up as well as any vacuum I have ever had,.

So today, I took the one they gave us, and carefully took it apart and cleaned it up.  I discovered that it is missing a few parts, so I talked to the man in London who oversees apartments and furnishings.  He said bring it in when you come and we'll order the parts.  Sounds good.

But since I was in the mood, I took our vacuum apart and cleaned it!  I discovered 2 filters that were pretty obscene.  I order two new ones and by Monday, we should have an "almost like new" vacuum.

We passed this little shop many times.  We can hardly wait for it to open.

We took our walk through a lovely area of town.  We passed by the place where I used to get my hair cut.  I said a silent "miss you!" to the place as we passed by.  I came home and there was an email from the management saying, "April 12!!!!  Book your appointments now."  So I wrote them back and told them I needed to see Jeanie ASAP after that April 12 date.  I can hardly wait.  I feel like I am wearing a bedraggled mop on my head.  My hair is long and limp and when not frizzy from the humidity, is a general nuisance.

SK says he's willing to give it a try.  Who knows?  It could be the best haircut I've ever had.

Frankly, I have my doubts.

That is so funny! Your newest hobby is taking apart and putting back together vacuums. Maybe you'll have to apply to your flat neighbors to get more to take apart.
