A New Career ? I Don't Think So!
What a beautiful day it was today! We hardly know how to react to the idea that we are here legitimately and will be through end of August. But we are joyful. I feel a renewed sense of energy.
We began the day with fear and trembling for both us....it turned into giggling very quickly as I began THE HAIRCUT with the new clippers. I draped SK in the shiny new cape, took a deep breath and began snipping away. I set it on the longest setting, but it still seemed to cut it very short, and as you can see, I took a lot of hair off that head.
It took me nearly 45 minutes to get it done. I was timid and slow, but both of us are pleased enough with the outcome to let the haircut be. What choice do we have? I don't think barber shops will be open for at least another month or longer. It could be a lot better, but it will get him through another month or two.

| Not the best haircut he has ever had, but the important thing is that he will not have to wear a stocking cap. |
He has graciously volunteered to cut my hair with said clippers. I just may get desperate enough to let him do it. But considering how long it takes the hairstylist to cut my hair, it could end up being a tragic event in my life.
For lunch, we sent out for Five Guys. I've been dreaming about a hamburger from there! It didn't disappoint. It was excellent. The delivery person came to the downstairs door with it and rang. SK ran down to get the order from him, and handed him a ten pound tip....telling him that we are celebrating an important event, and we wanted him to celebrate with us. I don't know what the man thought...especially since people don't tip here in this country.
Our carpet in champaign-colored, and since we first got here I have been itching to get down on the floor along all of the baseboards and scrub. Over the years, even with carpet cleaning, it has darkened. Yesterday and today I have devoted time to trying to get it clean. It is looking better, and soon I am going to see if I can get a carpet cleaning company to come in and clean it. It will take several days for me to finish this project.
I made another big pot of potato soup - Lia's recipe, but without ham. We delivered it to one of our graduate students who hasn't been well recently. She tested negative for the virus, but it sure sounds like that is what she has had for 3 weeks. It is 28 degrees right now and it was nice to hand her a very warm large bowl of the wonderful soup. She is a vegetarian. I also gave her some chocolate, because Michael - our young man from India texted me today to let us know that it is "Chocolate Day."
I've been trying to set up an appointment with a lady who lives here in Oxford. The missionaries have been working with her to help her come back into activity. Here is the really fun thing. Her sister lives in Denmark and is the mother of a family that we absolutely loved. Remember Casper? The lady here is his aunt!
We had a Zoom mission meeting in the evening. Dave said that travel these days in and out of England is crazy. We were extremely blessed to get the missionaries in last week that we did. You may remember that we said goodbye to 13 very dear young missionaries last Saturday. Five of them remain here as of today because there is simply no way to get them home to their countries of Fiji, Hong Kong, China, Samoa and one other.
One of those five bore his testimony, and spoke for at least five minutes. He is from Fiji and his testimony was a beautiful and humble witness of the Savior. He shared what he had learned from his companions and from President and Sister Checketts. It was a sweet sweet way to end the day.
