If This is an Adventure, There Must Be Some Amazing Ones Ahead!
We met via Zoom with a stake president from Canterbury (Yes! THAT Canterbury!) and a former stake president from our stake in this area of England. They are in charge of the Institute program here, and we have an uphill climb here to try to gather everyone together from all over our stake and get them motivated at the end of a long day on the computer, to switch it on again and join us for Institute.
They are wonderful men, both very busy but so very interested in doing everything they can to strengthen testimonies and knowledge of the gospel. We came up with some good plans that we hope will work, but we only have until next Wednesday to get our young adults excited about starting a new semester of Institute.
Other than that, we had a lovely visit with Erin and one with Melissa, and one with a dear friend in Gilbert.
The one grand adventure of the day was driving to a superstore on the outskirts of town to pick up an order of groceries. On the mission call Saturday evening, it was announced that we were not to drive anywhere to shop. Well, the order had already been placed and paid for. Tonight at nine was the earliest we could get it and that was nearly a week ago.
So with some trepidation, we set out on very deserted roads for the 10-minute drive to Tesco. We pulled into the parking lot, which had a fair number of cars in it. We pulled to the back where there is a small temporary building where orders are kept until someone picks them up. There were two cheerful Brits waiting for us. They were bundled up in heavy coats, gloves and stocking hats. All they were allowed to do was wheel out the carts that had the order in, and we bagged them and put them in the trunk.
Once we were home, we had to unload them, get them through the first glass door downstairs, then the second glass door, and then on to the elevator. Not difficult but kind of a pain. It was a large order, with a few heavy items - milk, Dr. Pepper! When we normally shop around here, we just get supplies for a couple of days and carry them home and walk up the steps. But this order is for at least a week with fresh fruit and vegetables, eggs, milk and bread.
Tomorrow morning I am going to put in an order to be delivered. It will probably be at least 2 weeks before we can get a delivery but best to get a slot right now. I think we'll do that until the lockdown is lifted or until we can get a vaccine.
The first thing I do in the morning is open all the curtains and look out at this beautiful place. We haven't been exercising this week, because we have both been a little under the weather. Slight sore throat, and tired, but not sick, not fevered. Haven't lost our sense of taste or smell. Haven't had a cough - mostly. I'm certain it's not COVID but we are not exercising this week.....just being careful.
But next week....we are going to be out for our half hour of exercising seeing this beautiful little city again!
