Business - As Usual (Socially Distancing of Course)
I am so happy to say that my back is getting better every day. I feel such gratitude to be able to roll over, stand up and turn. And I only felt bad a few days! My heart goes out to people who are chronically ill or in pain.
I spent a fair amount of time today working on the slide talk. I don't know if I will be giving it or not, and if I am, I hope I will be able to figure out how to do it on Zoom....or at the very least record the whole thing. I can't even begin to express how much I love the study and preparation for a church talk or an art talk. It is manna to my soul.
In the afternoon, we went for our walk. This time we headed down to high street. Just like every respectable town in Denmark has a walking street, I think most cities and towns in this fair land have a high street....which is similar. There are a couple of streets where cars are not allowed, and it becomes basically an outside mall.
We dropped into the covered market. That is such a delightful old place, with little lanes inside where you wander along looking into the windows or just stepping through a portal to enter a tiny shop. I really enjoy that, and SK is better than he has ever been to allow me to stop and look. He still gets a little nervous if I look like I might be interested in buying something. He needs to know beforehand that I want to look for something specific and then he can deal with it.
I can't begin to express the joy I feel walking around this town. I love it. The streets were busy and I snapped a couple of photos but I didn't want to make anyone uncomfortable so they are not great shots.
We stepped into a grocery store to buy some produce and then home.
Our Saturday night mission call with Dave and Deb was - as always outstanding. We heard from 5 missionaries who have completed their missions and who are returning to their homes on Tuesday of next week.
One young man who looks about 13 had been serving in Russia, and was returned to his home in Northern England at the outset of COVID. He was reassigned to the England London Mission and finished the last 3 months of his mission as assistant to the president. His maturity, his understanding of the gospel and understanding about serving the Lord as a missionary is just exceptional. I cannot imagine that he will be anything but a stellar individual for the rest of his life.
The sisters who are leaving were incredible as well. So mature spiritually, and so ready to tackle like. Each one bore their testimony and stated that they will be forever grateful to have served here now during this pandemic. They each felt that they had learned so much that may not have come had not these extraordinary circumstances crowded in.
I loved Dave's closing remarks. I see my father in him often as he speaks. He truly is a gifted leader, ideally suited to guide these young missionaries through this difficult time.
No news yet/still on our visas, which is good news. And no changes yet on our status in Tier 2 security measures. We are still contacting young adults daily to check on them, but no in-person anything as of yet.
