Wouldn't It Be Loverly?
The young missionaries came over this morning to record a song for the "Why I Believe" fireside on Sunday evening. They are wonderful broadcasts from the England London Mission that come through Facebook. I don't know how anything works but it seems to be an effective way of sharing wonderful meetings.
We watched several while we were in Gilbert, and they came through beautifully. Since we here in England are 8 hours ahead of Gilbert, we watched it at 10 in the morning. On Sunday, we will tune in at 6 p.m.
The Elders were asked to record their favorite hymn and get it to the mission office, who is putting together an hour and a half of talks and music, each one recorded separately by the speaker/singer/instrumentalist in their own homes. Elder Boyack and Elder Akuotu spent a couple of hours singing over and over again as they recorded each time and then deleted. They were here because we have a little keyboard and they thought it sounded better than the piano, which tends to drown their voices out on a phone recording.
I let them use my iphone to record because it is a better device than their little mission phones. It did a great job of recording, but none of us could figure out how to get the recording from my phone to the tech elders' computer. That honestly took another couple of hours. They tried so many different ways.
In the evening, Angie and Veer came over for the second half of "My Fair Lady," and dinner. Dinner this evening was Barbecue Chicken Pizzas (foccacia bread topped with bbq sauce, diced cooked chicken, red onions, cilantro and mozzarella cheese), a salad and some fruit with raspberry shortcake. Erin told me about this pizza months ago, and I was waiting for a good time to make it. This was the time, and it was wildly successful with just the four of us here. Everyone loved it, including me! It was outstanding. I can hardly wait to make it again. Sorry I didn't take a picture!
The movie....what can I say about that movie? It was our first date, and watching it was tied up with the nervousness of a first date with someone you hardly know. I watched the movie, but I was also aware of SK sitting next to me, and somewhat on edge about how I looked and behaved. He was so much older than I (I was 16 and he was nearly 22) and I wanted to impress him....at least I didn't want to make a fool of myself!
The music is so beautiful, the costumes over the top, the actors unequaled, and the story delightful. It was so interesting to hear Veer and Angie analyze it after it was over. They loved it, but they thought it couldn't possibly be made today in this world of htypersensitivity about male/female roles etc. SK got the sniffles and teary eyes every so often. And I simply got swept up in the grandeur of the movie. I loved the dialogue the last half hour between Eliza and Professor Higgins. Seeing it through the filters of the 50's and 60's, it was outstanding.
It was loverly.
