The Beauty of An Ordinary Day

It was a leisurely and lovely day.  With rain and dramatically dark skies, I did laundry and cleaning.  I listened to podcasts and SK and I visited about all kinds of things.  After fifty-two years of marriage you may wonder what we have to talk about.  Everything.  We talk to each other more now than ever it seems.  There are sometimes long stretches of time where we are each busy working on our own that we do not speak, but when we sit down to eat, or when we are drifting off to sleep or waking up, we talk.

I purchased some ear buds so that I can listen to podcasts in the car without disturbing SK, but I hardly ever use them because (apart from my GPS Assisting duties) we invariably want to talk.

We never tire of the subject of this mission, the many little miracles we have thus far seen, and the profound blessing of working with these amazing young adults.  We marvel at their vision, their wisdom, their spiritual depth and their optimism.  There is much anxiety and depression and stress, but they are each in their own way moving into the future with hope.

We went shopping for ingredients for two dishes - the recipes which Erin sent.  We are having another Family Home Evening tomorrow night for two to three YSAs, one of whom is a vegetarian.  I want to have some interesting and delicious food for her.  But I'm telling you right now that there are items here I have not worked with before, tofu and lentils in particular.  The recipe calls for steamed lentils (a small container from Trader Joe's) and since we could find nothing but the dried lentils, that is what we purchased.

SK wisely noted as we picked up the pound package, "Looks like I'll be eating lentils for awhile."  Yes, I put a cup in water to soak, and there is plenty of that package left!  Good food supply item.  If only we had Jimmy Dean sausage, we could make Olive Garden Sausage and Lentil Soup.  I can make my own, but it isn't quite as good.

We participated in the zoom Institute class, and then moved right into our mission zoom meeting.  Both were excellent.  But now I'm off to bed.  So sorry - no pictures today, but I do have a joke for you that Deb called to share:

Do you know why the art thief was stalled by the side of the road after having stolen several items from an art museum?

Because he had no Monet to buy Degas to make the VanGogh.

Groan and eye roll to the joke—hopefully not the dinner items!

Ha ha ha! Good luck with dinner. I never even try to do tofu or meat substitutes—just veggies and beans!
Ha! The meal was a success. Thank you. And you know you go far beyond beans and veggies Melissa.
