Pie, Pie and Protecting Christmas

I made Shepherd's Pie this morning - American version of course.  In the very British version, you use lamb instead of beef....hence Shepherd's Pie.  If you use beef in England, it is called a cottage pie.  In my American version, I use beef, ketsup, worchestershire sauce, beef broth and seasonings.  I think it's pretty good, but then I have not as yet had authentic Shepherd's Pie.....and I have no desire to.  Something about eating a sweet little lamb....ahem.

We took a nice long walk after making the pie.  It rained on and off, and since I have a hood on my coat, SK carried - and used - the umbrella.  We took a walk though St. Thomas Church yard.  St. Thomas Street is very very short.  It is the street we live on.  It ends at this sweet little chapel that is hundreds of years old, still in use, but looking very much like no one has been home there in decades.  There are still services being offered.  But the little graveyard is so charming.

See the Road Sign?  This is our little short street St. Thomas

If you look closely, you will see a little squirrel running through the grass.

I fixed banana cream pie, and our friend Veer had an unscheduled meeting with her tutor, and so Angie said, "Let's wait until Sunday."  So here I am with a large Shepherd's Pie and a nice little banana cream pie.  Mmmmmmm.  It is too late to try to invite anyone else.  I think I'll put the Shepherd's Pie in the freezer, and SK and I might just have to take care of the banana pie.  Ahhhh....Life can be tough.

Actually it really can be.  Rumors are running rampant throughout the news that we are on the verge of a two-week lockdown.  It will be very strict, and is meant to be a circuit breaker....considerably slowing down the spread of this virus.  BBC said today that for the first time, a majority of Brits say they think they will get the virus.  Lockdowns are so very difficult for some of these young people away from home for the first time.  It can be terrible for older people who live alone...and it can be terrible for young families where the little ones are right there 24/7 with no relief in sight.

They are doing this to "protect" Christmas.  I hope it works.
