"My Fair Lady" our 1st and 156th Dates

Ah October one, and a new month.  It has been a nice leisurely day.  We took a walk, visited the post office and a local grocery store.  We just made a small purchase so we feel like it is OK to shop there.  But it is expensive.  It is called M&S, and you walk through ladies clothing to get to the grocery store.  I might really enjoy that if SK were more inclined to stroll through at a slower pace!

We enjoy wandering their aisles.  They have a lot of prepared food that you simply take home and heat.  And it is good.  We especially like some of their fish.  But we got produce and fresh rolls for dinner tonight.

Veer (our cute little friend who was baptized last winter - comes from a Sikh background and is adorable) and Leticia's sister Angie will be arriving any minute for dinner and the movie "My Fair Lady."  Last year, we told Veer that it is the movie we saw on our first date.  She has been wanting to see it ever since.  It is nearly 3 hours though, and we will probably only watch half, since both young women have reasons to be home early enough to get a good sleep.\

Angie's sister Leticia got baptized shortly before Veer did.  She is rock solid and a super young woman.  She is a physician and was trying to get licenses in the UK.  She was living with her sister Angie, who at that point said that she loved what the church was doing for Leticia - but would never consider getting baptized herself.

Leticia's visa expired and she was unable to get an extension, and so had to leave for her home in Dominican Republic shortly before we came back.  She is currently employed there as a doctor and doing very well.

But sometime in the last 6 months, Angie was taught by the missionaries and baptized!  She works for one of the local colleges and is one of the smartest people I have ever conversed with.  She listens thoughtfully to what people are saying, and then if asked, weighs in with her opinion.  Every single time that has happened, I have realized that she knows a lot more than I do.  I very much enjoy her.

I spent two hours on the computer and phone trying to rent "My Fair Lady," from Amazon.  It is crazy.  I have never had a problem with Amazon and my credit card, but for some reason, with this movie, they didn't like my credit card and my billing address in the U.S.  I tried to get it on Amazon Prime in the U.S. but they didn't want to let me watch it in the UK!

When we called Melissa, she checked on it too, and discovered they wouldn't let her watch it either.  Fortunately we got it resolved and will be able to watch this evening.  We'll see what Veer (raised in England) thinks of it.

Veer and Angie just left.  They loved the baked spaghetti and they loved "My Fair Lady!"  But since they work and go to school, they had to leave half-way through.  We had a great evening with them though, and decided that we will have a movie night every Thursday.  Isn't that fun?  Two movies in the queue - after "My Fair Lady" are "The Sound of Music" and Pirates of Penzance.  I know what you are thinking.....but I did NOT pressure anyone to say they would like to see Pirates.

Angie shared a little bit of her conversion story.  She said her sister Leticia kept asking her very thoughtful questions that spurred some very interesting discussions.  Angie is in research, and loves knowledge.  She said that at one point the spirit bore a powerful witness to her that knowledge and truth were a huge part of this gospel, and it was a concept that was delicious to her.  There is much more...and we hope to hear it as our Thursday nights unfold.

This is Veer's first time away from home and she is living in an apartment with other students.  She has her own bedroom and bathroom but I think she is lonely.  Angie is a good friend, and I think our movie night may lift Veer's spirits.  We love them both and will enjoy hosting our "date night" each week.
