A Red-Letter Day!

For the first time in 7 months, I attended Church today! It was truly lovely. There were about 50 people there. We sat, scattered throughout the chapel/cultural hall, sitting alone or in pairs, each wearing our masks. We were served the bread in little sacramental plastic cups. As one young man with plastic gloves and a mask served us, we each picked up our cup, partook and then kept our cup. The same thing happened with the water.  It was truly nice to be in a church and partaking of the sacred emblems with those dear members of the Oxford 1st and 2nd Wards.

After Church was over, we came home and had about an hour before four young women came to have lunch with us.  Three of them are British, and I fixed a very British lunch.  Ha!  They were all gracious and seemed to love it....having two helpings each.  It was - I explained - Americanized - which covers any inadequacies.  It was Cottage Pie, which is basically a flavorful meatloaf topped with mashed carrots, then mashed potatoes and then a layer of cheese.  Not bad!!!

Two of them are 18, and this is their first time away from home.  I met them at church and invited them over.  We already had two coming who have been here before.  They seemed genuinely pleased, and they were all wonderful as we sat around the table.  We talked about everyone's conversion stories.  One has been a member for 2 months, one for 11 months and one is second generation and the 4th is 3rd generation.   They all had wonderful stories, and I think there will be some good friendships result.

One of them brought a movie which we watched.  And then they were gone.

Later in the evening, one of them called and said she had been very homesick in the morning and was so grateful to spend the day with all of us.  Ah.....payoff.

SK watched the stake priesthood meeting via Zoom and I watched a Terence and Fiona Givens Fireside vis Zoom.
And now it is time for bed!

These days are going fast.  I so hope we still have 10 months ahead of us here.

Oh, that is so sweet about the homesick student. You are doing so much good in your corner of the world.
