20 20 Hind Sight
Walking in the rain, under an umbrella with SK. I love it. Our walk today didn't occur until later in the day....not that it warms up much. Daytime temperatures are usually within 12 degrees of nighttime temperatures. That is so very unlike fall and winter temperatures in Gilbert where it is not unusual for temperatures to swing as much as 40 degrees in one 24-hour period.
We walked a mile or so...not much. But we went to a little market where we got several small items and a small plant for the young sister missionaries. They moved into a different flat this weekend, and I wasn't over there to help. But I thought perhaps if we took a meal and a plant that would be good enough. They seemed genuinely pleased.
Our prime minister Boris Johnson gave new guidelines for the country in a press release this evening. The COVID numbers are rising in some areas of the country and they are taking stricter precautions to contain or at least slow down the virus. I am happy to report that Oxford does not fall under those new restrictions. We will still be able to have up to six people here (including us) from different households. Up north, they are saying that you can't have people from more than one household.
So, we can continue with what we have been doing. That makes me happy.
While we were out in the rain under our umbrella, we met Kristina and her boyfriend (she is our YSA rep, and he is a delightful young man who shows up at events because he is quite taken with her). We enjoyed visiting in the rain, and then came home. We tuned into Family Home Evening. I must say, we are learning all kinds of fun and competitive games that you play on your own personal computers but you are playing against everyone else on their computers. Tonight, however we played on teams. That seems to work great too.
We played Pictionary. When it is your turn to draw, you use your finger on the screen. You can change colors and the size of the line. It seems all too complex for me, and we barely stayed up with everyone else. It is awful to feel like such a dimwit. Kristina had to keep gently coaching us which button to push, or how to do something. I think the next time they do something like that, we will just watch.
At nine, we tuned into the mission Zoom conference. It was all about the temple and looking forward to the time that we can take our newest members to do work for their ancestors. That will be such a great day. Last year, we made several trips to the temple. Getting there seemed fraught with stress...trying to negotiate the driving and the navigating through all kinds of traffic. But when we were at the temple, that all faded into nothing as we enjoyed being with our young friends in that beautiful place.
For some reason since we have been back, SK has done so very well at the wheel. He doesn't seem as tense. He negotiates his way through the complex round-abouts with ease. He gets us wherever we are going as though we are in Gilbert Arizona. I think if we get to the point that the temples open up, we will be so very grateful that the 1 1/2 to 3 hour trip will be nothing!
I watch the BBC news every day, and I pay attention to the news in the U.S. I must say there is little there to make me feel good about the world. But it IS fascinating. We are right in the middle of a most unusual era. COVID, the Presidential race, BLM, earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, riots, flu, anxiety and depression among so many, and so on.
I think it will be so intensely interesting one day hence to look back on these times. What will we know then that we don't know now? And how will we view all that has transpired in 2020?
