Is There Anything Quite Like a Hamburger?
We had a hamburger for dinner! Usually, if we have any feeling at all about purchasing dinner from one of the fine establishments in Oxford, we think first of fish and chips, then Lebanese, then African. The African restaurant is interesting and very good. But tonight we had a hamburger.
Two of our young adults (married before we got here) have been here in Oxford for a few years finishing up their education. They are a dynamic couple - she is enormously creative in singing and writing music - particularly theatrical music, and he is interested in going into art - as in a curator at an art museum. They just need to have a child interested in literature and they would have it all. They will be leaving Oxford on Wednesday. We are sorry to see them go.
They invited anyone interested to come by Five Guys (the franchise from America) to say goodbye this evening. We had walked for a couple of miles on a wild goose chase, and then planned on meeting them there to just say goodbye. We got there a half hour early and were hungry, so we had a hamburger! Ahhh the goodness. We enjoyed them immensely.
I spent the better part of the day watching videos about and by YSAs and reading old emails to get up to speed on the program Dave told us about. I sent out messages to our YSA reps and Bishop and his wife. I will continue that on Wednesday and hopefully we will be able to come up with some really good things for the YSAs to do that will help to keep them close to each other and the gospel.
We had a zoom meeting with Veer and Kristina and the Bishop's wife which was helpful, but we will need to work through several other things....we are a work in progress!
We had Family Home Evening on a zoom call. We can only see people when they speak. But it works. It just can't possibly be as good as sitting in the same room and enjoying the give and take of conversation, but this will do for awhile. I still haven't given up on the idea of having a simple meal here maybe a couple of times a week with a small group, changing the individuals in the group every time so they all get to see each other.
We have a really cute returned missionary - he is from England and served in Russia. His name is Harry, and he is just starting his studies at Oxford. MMMM.....there are several really sharp and attractive young women here. We'll see what happens.
But we're not matchmakers! Our prime objective is to give them an anchor, a refuge and a place to come to relax and feel at home. We can do that.
Especially if we can eat a really good hamburger from time to time.
