Oh - To Be a Real Missionary!

Not much to report on today.  We filled it.  We planned menus for the next several days.  We'll feed the missionaries tomorrow for lunch and district meeting, we'll have dinner here for the YSAs on Monday, and I wanted to plan several meals for the time Derek, Heather, Brooke, Clint, Ally, Kimball and Andersen will be here.

We drove out to the city limits where the superstores are and did our shopping.  We always divide the purchases up and make two transactions, one for our own personal use, and one to submit to the stake for the YSAs.  SK is getting used to that by now, but it still is stressful for him....the same way trying to place an order at a drive-through window for 6 people is stressful.

We purchased a fairly large order for ourselves. (Feeding the missionaries is something we choose to do and so it is out of our own pocket, which we love doing.)  We make quite the picture unloading several large bags stuffed full of food from the car, carrying it over the the apartment building door, moving them all inside the door and opening the inner door (about 6 feet from the outer door) and then loading them all on the elevator.  All of this took going back and forth several times.  Then it was up to our floor and into the flat.  Finding a place to put all the stuff was another matter, but it is all tucked away.

A lady who lives above us (a genuine duchess and in her seventies who looks and acts much younger) was leaving and noted with some dismay that we certainly had done a lot of shopping.  I hastily explained the presence of 7 extra people for the weekend.  Oh well.

The fun thing about today was that SK struck up a marvelous conversation with the checkout clerk, a lady from India.  He explained his badge, who we are, what we are doing here, and our church.  She asked a lot of questions.  I handed her a pass-along card, for which she thanked me!  I hope she either calls with more questions or goes online.

Wouldn't that be so wonderful?
