Kindness

SK slept in again.....I mean really slept in....until noon!  This is unheard of.  Is he well?  The truth is he watched the Superbowl - live - meaning it ended around 3 a.m.  He felt justified though, because 1.  He watched with YSAs
2.  There were no commercials (crazy right?)
3.   Senior missionary standards are - um - relaxed, at least more relaxed than for the young ones.
4,   He cleaned the kitchen (Isn't that so kind?)

This morning was overcast, and it seemed so cozy in the flat.  I was awake at 6, and got up and studied.  It was glorious.  I read from "Jesus the Christ," "The Book of Mormon," some art books, and studied the lesson for Wednesday.  It looks like I will give it, and SK will give cogent comments.  That is the way we taught Sunday School.  One of us prepared and presented the lesson, while the other was there to pontificate if the need arose,

I'm kind of excited about this lesson from 2 Nephi 1 - 4, chapters that are magnificent.  You could choose one of a dozen topics from those pages.  I love that these chapters are Lehi's last sermons to his family.  He was nearing death and taught them.  I want to start out with that, and the idea that if we think we are about to exit this life, there are things we really want our loved ones to know.  We want to share the valuable lessons we have learned about how to achieve joy and peace in this life.

I sense that from these words of Lehi.  After observing his family for all of their lives, he was deeply concerned about his two oldest, and had great joy because of the younger ones.

I wanted to talk briefly about afflictions, and go over some of the chapters where the word is used.  It is quite interesting to look at the context and specifics of what was suffered and how it was viewed.  We will also talk about personal responsibility and repentance.  I have some wonderful quotes from Elder Christofferson.

SK and I walked about four miles today getting some things done.  We also spent an hour in Christ Church about a third of a mile from our flat.  It had an amazing number of early Christian art.  I loved looking at it.  It also had two paintings that they think could have been done by Leonardo's studio.

An Attempt at a selfie - on a bad hair day!

In the evening we walked to the Bishop's home - not quite a mile from here.  We had dinner with him and then one of our newest members - Veer - took a tumble down the stairs and hurt her back.  The activity for the YSAs went on upstairs but the Bishop''s wife and cute Leticia (also a new member) , and I stayed with Veer.  Leticia is a physician, but as yet has not passed the exam that will admit her.  But she stayed with Veer the whole evening making sure she was comfortable.  She is lovely, and so very kind.  Veer took some ibuprofen, but I am not sure they did much for her.  She was given a blessing and then she seemed to improve a little.  The bishop was concerned to have her ride the bus home to London (48 minute ride), so he and his wife took her to her home.  That was an incredible kindness and both he and his wife possess that cardinal virtue to a great degree.

I made a spot available for the young people to post words that they want to color their lives with this year.  On a post-it note they write one single word and then their name.  I'll take a picture when we have more.  We have only a hand full so far, but the one I put up makes me happy.  Here are the words so far:

Courageous    Light    Opportunity    Connected     Confidence   Positivity

And mine:  Kindness
