Still Working

We had a great conference call with President and Sister Checketts and Elder and Sister Call this morning.  Everyone is quite enthusiastic about the study program we will embark upon in February.  That gives us a few weeks to prepare well and to generate great excitement about it.

A few changes were necessary, and we all went back to the drawing board with our 11 chapters each.  It took a few hours.  Otherwise, I am still tweaking away at the slide presentation about the art of Christ.

We took some time off to walk over to the grocery store to buy supplies for dinner tomorrow - break the fast together with the missionaries and the YSAs.  We will probably have a dozen here.

We also were trying to take care of problems in both young missionary apartments.  SK walked 3 miles yesterday trying to find a little shop where he could pay for the electricity for the sisters' flat.  It is an odd thing.  The meter is in a lock box outside, and must be "filled" onto a little key at a place that does that sort of thing.  They will only take cash and they will only take $50 worth at a time, so that means SK walks (5 minutes) over to refill it a couple of times a week.  As of December 31, the usual place no longer provides that service.

The management company told us a couple of different places nearby to pay it, but they closed up by 5 p.m. and in the meantime SK was afoot looking for a new shop.  It all turned out well today though, and now we know where to pay next time.

The elders had a leak in their washing machine.  SK went over to see if he could tell what the problem was.  I stayed here trying to get telephone numbers of people who might fix it, and trying to find out if it is a landlord issue or a mission issue.  I don't know who bought the washing machine originally.

But then Elder Tshendabo took it apart and Voila! found a large ball of crystallized detergent which was causing the problems.  (He did after all get a master's degree in electrical engineering - so he must be very capable.)

One of our young sister missionaries got the news today that she will be returning to her home in Provo, Utah next week.  She came over to tell us about it.  I fixed lunch and we sat here around the table commiserating with her.  She is so sad this is happening!  She has a problem with both hips which has never bothered her until she came here and walked so much.  She has been seeing an orthopedic surgeon in London, conferring with her father in Provo who is an M.D. and President Checketts, and all decided it is best for her to go home and get surgery done.  She has been in such pain, I completely understand the decision.

We will participate in the conference call this evening at 9.  The entire mission tunes in.  It is a beautiful thing.  There are so many ways now for the mission president to stay in touch with every missionary and to keep them informed about everything that is happening.

After that, I hope to have a little more time to work on that slide talk, and then I'll crawl in under that marvelous down comforter and drift blissfully off to sleep!!!!

I’m impressed with all of dad’s walking!! Although I do wonder if you come up with these wild goose chases for him to do when you’re working on a slide show...😁

That’s a hard thing for the sister missionary. It must be so disappointing. Will she able to come back?
Melissa....yes, sometimes its tempting.
Erin....We are thinking there is a possibility, depending on what the doctors find when she gets home. She is a good missionary.
