Bustling - or Not
There is a bustler who lives above us. I have been fascinated for months by this person's habits. I have no idea if it is a man or woman (There is a couple above us, and a single woman above and to the side, and we don't know which ones live where according to the apartment layouts.), but I often hear someone pacing. Back and forth the length of the apartment at a fast clip. I have heard it at 3:30 in the morning, and often throughout the day. Sometimes it will go on for ten minutes or more.
I wonder if the person is exercising, or furiously pacing/thinking. I can't quite picture what they are doing, I only know they are bustling.
Something neither SK nor I have done today. In fact, this is the first day since we arrived in Oxford that we haven't been outside of our flat. SK had an unsettling night with heartburn (it may have had something to do with the half-pound bar of white chocolate he ate after dinner) and a headache. He stayed in bed most of the day, which is extremely rare for him. He is feeling much better this evening, and I suspect will be back to normal tomorrow.
I also had a headache....not a migraine, but a dull pain that felt like my head was full of pressure. That's how SK described his headache too. I said, "Maybe there is something in the air." He always laughs when I say things like that. I think the cause is something in the air....humidity or air pressure or whatever. It looks and feels as if it should rain, but it hasn't yet. In fact, no rain is forecast for another week.
I spent the majority of the day at the computer and on the phone. We have a missionary apartment that needs major help, so I've talked to a lady in the mission office who handles missionary flats, and I've spoken with the missionaries, and I have been perusing websites looking for the right size book shelves and curtains. I think we'll have to take a field trip to IKEA.
I did some studying for the institute lesson next week, and some reading about Christ in Art - because I have been asked to give the presentation again....possibly two more times. I ironed. I set up an account with a local grocery chain, and by so doing got 30% off of my first delivered order...so that first delivery will be tomorrow evening. That's an idea whose time has come. It was also no delivery fee, but it would have cost $3 if I had had to pay for it. I think there are times, like today, when I would count $3 a bargain!
I also spent over an hour speaking with one of my favorite friends from Denmark. She is in London with her husband and had thought we were in London. They wanted to come see us, but since we are a distance away, she thought it best to wait. A trip to see us would probably carve a cool 4 hours out of her day, and they have so many things they want to do in London. I can't say I blame her at all.
She is a dynamic woman, younger by at least by ten years than I, and she is a bustler. She always has so many irons in the fire that I can hardly keep track of what she is doing. But I just watch her with sheer admiration. She is a music person, which already puts her on my "admiration" list. She is an organizer, and she is a doer. I know a few people like that. And I adore them.
But a bustler I am not. I don't have much to show for today, and I am not crazy about that, but I didn't mind sitting around either!
