No Jello

We had a sweet experience this morning.  The two young sister missionaries brought a young man here who is interested in the gospel.  They taught him a lesson they had planned out and we all sat at the table, while they had a very nice discussion.  They asked questions, he asked questions, they bore testimony, he did too.  We read cogent scriptures and talked about what they mean in our world today.  He will be baptized at the end of the month.

As far as I can tell, we walked nearly four miles today, mostly in search of elusive ingredients for dinner tomorrow evening.  We have been invited by a ward member to come to dinner tomorrow evening, but not just dinner.  It will be an early "Thanksgiving feast."  Our Bishop has been invited and another family from the states who are visiting.  It sounds like a lot of fun.

They asked us to bring our Thanksgiving dish.  Wellllll.....jello cannot be obtained around here, so I will not even attempt the spectacular/dreadful great and wonderful orange jello that has been a part of Thanksgiving ever since I been known as a Madsen.

I thought fresh cranberry salad like Ethan's would be my next greatest hits dish.  We trooped all over the town and to the outskirts, going to several stores.  No one has fresh cranberries.

As a backup, I decided that I would get some canned pumpkin -just in case cranberries were not to be had.  We finally found a few beaten-up cans on an obscure shelf at the end of an aisle. After all that, I think I will just take a carrot cake!

Erin shared your blog address with me so that I could enjoy your mission experiences. Hope you don't mind! I loved reading "NO Jello" right now. Amazing how different 2 English countries can be at a food market, isn't it?!?! But sharing the gospel--a sweet experience. Love from Valerie

No pumpkin? No jello? No cranberries?!?! Don’t these people celebrate Thanksgiving?! 😆 Really, though—what about sweet potatoes? Surely they have those!

yes they have sweet potatoes XD And they don't have anything called jello, but they do have jelly which is almost the same thing. Except it comes in gelatine form and you have to mix that with warm water! It's really odd! And I haven't been able to find pumpkin either, I was so desperate last year that I made my own from an actual pumpkin!
Tessa, you should live next door, then there wouldn't be such a steep learning curve for me! I'm not quite desperate enough to crack open a real pumpkin, but I'll hold the thought until I've exhausted every other possibility.

Love to you!

I think a box or two of Orange Jello is in order! We will see if we can make that happen on Tessa's next visit! :)
