Just Another Day in Paradise/Oxford

It may seem trivial to you, and in truth it IS trivial, but I got my hair cut today after a 2-month hiatus from such things.  I got it cut the Saturday before entering the MTC in Provo, and have just been a little too busy to be bothered.  But my hair was in great need of a trim.

SK was kind enough to go with me.  It was about a mile and a half across town.  I just don't cease to be amazed at the ancient buildings, the monuments, the quaint little businesses and the myriad of people out walking.  All seem to be striding with a purpose, and we were right in there with them today, earnestly trying to get to my appointment on time.

It was a tiny but immaculate little shop.  A young man of about 20 checked me in, hung up my coat and served me a small glass of sparkling water.  The lady who did my hair introduced herself to me.  She was beautiful with long silky light brown hair and flawless skin.  She had a lovely soft British accent.

As she began to snip away at my raggedy tresses, I told her about Gilbert, Arizona.  She asked, "Did you know I am from Cottonwood Arizona?  Shocker!  She spent most of her growing up years here in England and some in India, but met her husband in Arizona (he is from there too) and lived there for awhile before they moved to England.  She has dual citizenship because her mother is from England.

The majority of our YSAs are also American, and the two wards we attend have a lot of Americans attending...many who are living here indefinitely.

We had a lovely visit before we embarked on the walk back, this time taking it a bit slower (SK has a hard time strolling....he just naturally walks faster than I do). so that I could stop and admire the old buildings, the fall leaves, and the inviting narrow little lanes.

Although the charming red phone booths no longer function as such (some are ATMs and some are empty), the bright red mail box is ready for work.  It is very satisfying to put a stamped letter in that little structure!

This afternoon, I have been experimenting a little bit with food that I will be fixing in the coming week.  The temptation is to just buy the ingredients and follow the directions.  I do that if the recipe is from someone I trust, i.e. my daughters.  Otherwise I feel like I ought to try it out first.  SK seems to enjoy being the guinea pig.

It was also time to do some cleaning, and preparation for the district meeting/lunch held here tomorrow and the institute class tomorrow evening - held here as well.  We serve refreshments for that.

There was some time left over for some reading.....ah that is a joy.

Throw in a couple of loads of laundry, and that is basically my day here in Oxford.
