I Think We'll Make It

It seems surprising, but there is a fair amount of so-called paperwork to do with this calling.  Nothing overwhelming, but if I don't keep current, it does get to be a lot at once.

We submit receipts to the mission for all expenses incurred while helping out the younger missionaries and for travel when we inspect missionary apartments.  We submit receipts to the stake for all expenses incurred while making food or traveling for the YSAs.  And we incur a fair amount of expenses just living here that we put in the "Madsen Expense folder."

I organized those today and got all receipts in their proper folders.  The Seminaries and Institute Coordinator requested a roll of all YSAs attending since the term began 5 weeks ago.  And since I haven't set up a spread sheet in many years, I just did one on paper, and then transferred it to an email.  It's a good thing I have been jotting down the names of those who were here each night.  Otherwise that would have been impossible to remember.

SK was out today getting his hair cut and passed a little shoe shop.  He went in and then reported back to me that he found a place for me.  They specialize in shoes for people with foot problems...and that is me.  Lia put me on a regimen for my feet when we stayed with her for the last 6 weeks before our mission, and it was helping.  I am not as religious about following the whole "get your feet better plan" as I was in North Salt Lake.  And it shows.

I sometimes wonder if I will be able to complete this mission.  My legs and feet hurt, and often keep me awake in the night.  Part of the issue is that I just can't go barefooted.  I need serious support.  I have taken to wearing the most heavy-duty and clunky shoes I own whenever there is any amount of walking to do.  Generally we average about 2 miles in the course of a normal day, and sometimes that number gets to 4 or 5 miles.

But its not just the walking.  It is the standing that really gets to me.  All the standing I do in our little kitchen while I cut, chop, peel, stir, roll, bake and so on.  I have been wearing expensive shoes out and about, but there is white carpeting here and I don't dare wear the shoes I wear outside, inside the apartment.  SK found a shop a short walk from here that sells the very brand I like most!!!! And they had a sale going on!  And they had fuzzy house slippers that offer a good amount of support.  Voila!

Not far from that little shop he found a food processor for about 25 pounds, or 33 dollars.  We brought it home and I threw a yellow pepper and a red onion in it, pulsed it for 3 or 4 seconds and then stood there in wonder as I looked at the uniformly chopped vegetables.  Wow....this little item is truly a thing of beauty.

It has a coveted spot on the counter top.  I don't have a lot of counter space, but this definitely will stay and be pressed into service. This is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

I padded around in my new slippers until time to go to Relief Society.  I made dinner with them on my feet.  I'm doing so much better!!!!

We each had some wonderful blessings pronounced upon our heads when we were set apart for the mission.  I believe they will be fulfilled.  But I also believe I have to do my part to feel those blessings come.  Getting good shoes and getting more "help" with food preparation will do a lot towards receiving those blessings.

I think I'll make it.

I have no doubt you will make it! Because you always do! Hurrah for the slippers and the food processor. Time is money and it was a well spent $33!
