The Lord Keeps His Promises
In planning for our meal Monday, we thought it wise to go to the store today to make sure we have all of the ingredients we need for white chicken chili. We were not sure if canned green chilies exist here. I did the only sensible thing I could think of. I googled "canned green chilies" and came up with all kinds of interesting information. I could buy 8 4-oz cans for $25 on ebay.uk, plus of course, a $15 fee for import and another $15 for shipping. $55? I don't think so.
I discovered that there is some manner of bottled green chilies for sale in one of our local supermarket chains. It is 1.1 miles from here, and it has a parking lot, and we wanted to get several heavy items, so we set out in the car, as rain steadily drizzled everywhere. We got one block from our flat and got completely bogged down in very slow traffic. After inching along for a half hour, we aborted the mission, plugged "home" into Google Maps, and carefully made our way back. The whole trip took an hour and a half.
I don't know if it is because I am old or because I am tired, but I came home frazzled. That kind of traffic drives me crazy. I don't know how SK manages to be as cheerful as he is.
We then set out on foot....the walk took about 20 minutes, and we snuggled close under the umbrella to stay dry. But it didn't work. The wind was blowing, and the umbrella inverted! But then it corrected itself. We've got a little gem here.
We now have some bottled green chilies, but it remains to be seen whether they will do the job.

The high point of the day was our weekly conference call with the entire mission. All 180 missionaries call the mission president's conference call number and enter a pin. We are plugged in to the group call, but at the same time muted, so that all anyone of us can hear is the mission president and companion and the two APs.
The gave weekly announcements and business, and then each of the assistants gave a brief spiritual message from the scriptures, and then Dave gave an overview of the incredible session we had with Elder Cook, repeating some of the most powerful of Elder Cook's admonitions. He noted that this was a sacred experience for the mission and that Elder Cook's promise to each of us can be relied upon. His promise was that as we serve here, every one that we love and hold dear will be blessed.
I am relying on that promise.
And if you are reading this blog, you are no doubt someone I love and hold dear. You can rely on that promise as well.
