Still Shopping, But Enjoying it More

This was our second day out and about, and I must say it was easier.  Today, we went to a super grocery store that is open 24 hours a day.  It is about 25 minutes away and required vigilance and careful driving.  Both SK and I were more in sync today and more at ease.  I anticipate that it will get easier and easier as we go.

This store had three very long aisles of produce!  And it looked like very good produce.  We purchased what we need to make baked ziti tomorrow for the dinner between conference sessions.  That means we will eat dinner between 7 and 9 p.m.  It is technically pot luck but I thought I would make something substantial to contribute.  I'm unsure of it thought because the Brits don't think of or have sausage like we have it.....breakfast sausage.  I think when they say sausage, they mean a very fat frank encased in a thin membrane that is mostly just meat and not seasoned.

We will not be meeting at our flat because we don't have internet!  We will be going to a member's home which is literally around the corner from us.  We had dinner with them Sunday evening, and I was absolutely enchanted with their house.  It is number 3 of about 5 little row houses which are two-story.  The front door opens on a little path which runs along side a small arm of the Thames River.  It is a beautiful little lane.  The house interior is a bit dark, as are all homes we've been in because of the overhanging trees and the overhanging clouds.  It is the back door in the kitchen that just grabbed by heart!  It opened into the most delightful little back yard with a small building for the washer/dryer.  I wanted to just sit by the window and gaze out.

They were lovely hosts, and fed us and another guest a warming sort of vegetable stew, hearty and good.  He is a professor at Oxford and she is a music educator, and they were just fascinating to visit with.  I love the way people around here visit, giving their whole hearts to speaking and listening about all kinds of interesting things.  Her husband has a research project about the economy in India and has spent much time there.

At the moment, we are sitting in the mall, about 3 blocks from our flat.  We are in a food court of sorts where the internet is free.  Last night I just couldn't get the photos loaded up from my phone and was quite frustrated with it.  Sitting at a real computer which does what you ask is so much nicer.  However, it will be a week before that happens in our flat.

Last night, the bishop of one of the wards we attend visited us, and like everyone else we have met here, was relaxed, kind and gracious.  He came by to welcome us, to tell us about the YSAs in his ward, and to offer his help of any kind if we need it.  We had a lovely time getting to know him a little better.  He is from America, as is the bishop of the other ward, the stake president, and so many others we have met.

Monday evening the bishop of the other ward we attend invited all of us (YSAs and SK and me)
to dinner and then Family Home Evening.  There were 6 young people there, plus the bishop, his wife and three daughters.  It was a lovely big group.  We were served chili on baked potatoes with sour cream and cheese, a popular dinner here.  For FHE, we played a game where we recorded 2 little known facts about ourselves and then everyone had to guess who the facts belonged to.  "Being unreasonably fearful about scorpions" was kind of a giveaway about the lady from Arizona, but oh well.

Time to leave our little internet zone.

Ta ta until tomorrow!
