Preparation Day
Today is what missionaries call "Preparation Day," meaning that it is when you do everything that helps you prepare for the rest of the week, laundry, cleaning, shopping, etc. So in that sense it was a preparation day for us....kind of.
I did those things like cleaning and laundry and we did some shopping. We drove the sister missionaries to some kind of fair, where they set up a booth and answered questions about the church. They also gave away copies of The Book of Mormon. It took an hour round trip in the morning and took an hour round trip in the afternoon, and the traffic was difficult, the roads very narrow in some places and bicycles and pedestrians everywhere! Plus, cars would stop and semi-park in spots that weren't big enough to park in, and then we would have to wait our turn to circumnavigate around them....jumping into the middle of the road like you would jump into double dutch jump rope.
It was in Oxford, and it was 7 miles away, but it was quite the little trek. The sisters were happy and excited with the results of the day and are hoping to have at least four people who have said they would like to talk to them about the church,
We went over to their apartment to help carry all the stuff they were taking for their booth. The pest control guy was there! He set poison and traps around, and gave them some advice about sealing up some areas, which he will report to the property managers.
We went in search of a shower curtain for the elders' flat, which we found for about $2.50 on sale. It looks decent enough, and for the money, it can be replaced in another year or so if need be. We also looked for a mirror for the sister's apartment. The only one they have is in the bathroom, and when one is showering, the other one could be doing her makeup and hair in the bedroom. No luck on that one. We'll have to look elsewhere.
We found a place that carries every imaginable kind of light bulb and were able to get some for the sisters, some for the elders and even one for our little kitchen.
In the evening, we went to a Lebanese restaurant, which was amazing!
Home to study for little while before bed. I love that quiet part of the day when I can immerse myself in the scriptures and feel the closeness of the spirit, and a quiet reassurance that the Lord lives and is mindful of each of us wherever we are.
What better preparation is there than that?
