Praise for the Sabbath

Ahhh what a lovely day!  The sun was shining and sky was blue....BLUE!  Clouds didn’t move in till later and I enjoyed those hours of brilliant lights and shadows playing off the nearby rooftops.  General Conference didn’t start until 5 p.m. so we had the entire day to study and relax.  I’m frankly shocked at how dependent we have become on the internet.

Normally we would have done a fair amount of work on the computers, including this blog g.  And we would have watched all sessions of conference plus the wonderful church news broadcasts between.  Still waiting for the router to come, we are trying NOT to use our phones for anything but phoning and texts.  Nevertheless, I have used 5 GB in two weeks and I have a mission SIM card in the phone.  We have been asked to not go over 3!!!!!  Yikes.

We may get fired.🙁

But I think we are ok.  The tech elders told me that it isn’t uncommon for seniors to go over, and the mission office will just bill us (I think) for the extra.  SK is at 4.2.  We use google maps a LOT.  And we both read and answer email.  And furthermore, I have discovered Amazon.uk.  Which is a good thing.  There was no iron in this flat (apartment)!  SK’s white shirts must be crisp!  He’s been a great sport about using that little steamer in the MTC, but it doesn’t work here, and I just like to see a bright white freshly-pressed shirt on an elder.  And truth be told, I kind of enjoy ironing.

You’ll never guess the dvd’s abandoned here by other seniors.  We have a whole bunch of church videos....really great ones.  And then there is “Galaxy Quest!”  One of my favorites.  I will probably watch it several times over the next 18 months as I iron.  There is also “Downton Abbey “ - which is in our mission.  And open for tours.

This typing with one finger is crazy.  It won’t let me post pictures...when I do, the text goes away.  I can’t fix it so I’ll wait til we get internet for pictures.

We walked the 20 minute stroll in 60 degree weather through kind of a downtown area full of restaurants and shops to the Bishop’s house to have dinner with the YSAs and then watch morning conference.  There were over 20 of us there.  Dinner was great...Mexican food and about four different desserts.  Makes my heart sink.  I am not a stellar cook and I just wonder if I can make things the young people enjoy.  I feel pretty inadequate here in so many ways.

But Dave told us the assignment was not generated by him.  It came from church headquarters, and when we were set apart, we were given the idea that we are here now for specific reasons.  So I will trust that it is not for my cooking, and that the YSAs will survive regardless of whether what I fix is decent or not.

Conference was wonderful.  The prophet spoke at the end.  He is an amazing man.  Elder Uchtdorf also spoke.  I always love his messages.  The music was incredible.  Elder Stevenson and Elder Gong also gave superb talks.  There were more young people on the floor than the furniture but thankfully I had a cozy chair.  Their heads were down frequently as they took notes.  They laughed and talked but were reverent.

I’ve heard their conversations.  They talk about what they are studying....a whole range of topics.  They are smart!...and I love listening to their scintillating conversations..food for the mind.

Time for the last session of conference.  It is 9 p.m. and we are listening on SK’s phone....this will up the data usage significantly!

It’s worth every penny.

I’m sure anything you make they will be happy to eat! I’m guessing most of your YSAs are broke students and they will be happy to get a meal that they don’t have to pay for! Plus your cooking is wonderful!
