"I think there is more cleavage here than rats!" -SK
When we stepped outside our apartment building this morning, the air was cool...cool enough to wear a jacket. It even rained on us for a few minutes! However, the cool air didn't deter the throngs of young people out and about in various states of undress. Young women especially, with bare midriffs, paper-thin t-shirt dresses that adhere to their figures, outlining every bump, lump, curve and jiggle, low-cut blouses and shirts that bare as much of their breasts as is possible without baring absolutely all, thin knit blouses that do - actually bare all, jeans that are more holes than jeans, short shorts, and even shorter skirts made of clingy fabric.
Quite the adventure! -to walk in a college town in the summer.
What were we doing in at that hour in the center of town? We were engaged in a "Hunt."
"Hunt?" you ask.
Yes, we are now busily engaged in preparing the flat for new occupants. I want to leave this place in tip-top condition....at least as tip top as is possible. The apartment building is only about twenty years old and is really a lovely place. I have so enjoyed apartment-living here.
The flat itself is not bad, but the church has leased it now for nearly a dozen years, faithfully paying the rent on time and for the most part, being a very responsible renter. Senior couples as a whole, are tidy and clean, and are not hard on the places they lease. Even with large groups of young adults coming in, we find that keeping this little 700-square foot apartment clean is fairly easy.
However, just the passage of time and the typical wear and tear take their toll. Hence, we went in search of two new shower curtains (found lovely ones for 4 pounds a piece), new bath mats, a new mat for the kitchen - the anti-fatigue kind, a new duvet and a new mattress pad.
We managed to get them all, and I can check that off the list. Tomorrow we will deliver clothes and some old stuff from the apartment to the charity shop, and the recycling center, and I can check that off the list.
I scheduled a carpet cleaner to come in on September 8, after we are gone. I can check that off the list.
I scheduled a hair cut for Friday. I can check that off.
We spent nearly two hours with a senior couple who will be here in mid-September to serve somewhere in the England London Mission - we hope it is here in Oxford. That was great to see them and talk to them and be able to answer their questions. That was on the calendar from last week. Check.
I have communicated with Reverend Teal on behalf of the mission, asking if he would be willing to speak to the mission via Zoom before he leaves on Sabbatical to spend a semester at BYU. He so graciously agreed to speak on the 17th, even though he will be up very early to get to the airport on the 18th. I wish I could be more like him. He is gentle and kind and gracious. Check.
I texted back and forth with Matt for a little while today. He is doing well. Check.
Got the old duvet ready to recycle, washed the duvet cover and pillowcases to match, and put the new ones on the bed. Check.
Exercised by walking four miles on "The Hunt." Check.
Checked out distances and timing to see if we can take advantage of the opportunity to join the seniors Saturday to see the Castle Arundel, nearly three hours south of here. That is six hours in the car, but we think we can do it. Check.
Worked on my talk for Sunday. Decided to speak about light. Have been reading a book titled "The Spiritual Physics of Light." Got through chapter 2 - the most technical, and am looking forward to reading the rest. Read D&C 88, one of my favorites. There are so many different directions to take a talk based on that section! I think I will stay with light.
Check.
