Miscellany January 3 2021
This is another one of those days we have been inside the entire time. While the virus rages outside our humble abode, we are attending Sacrament Meetings, Sunday School and missionary meetings. It was Fast Sunday today, so our day was uninterrupted by eating. It was a very quiet day, except for the nearly non-stop music going on in the apartment next to us. A lot of rap, rock and who knows what and a fair amount of laughter and talking - with more than one or two.
They are often noisy into the wee hours of the morning, and we hear the front door downstairs opening and shutting even at 5 a.m. We wonder what kinds of parties they are hosting, We wonder where they are from (they speak a different language) and what on earth on they doing every night and often every day that sounds like a party?
The BBC says that COVID numbers are rising for the fifth straight day, despite the lockdown measures taken. What will we eventually find out about the transmission of this disease? There has to be something our physicians and scientists aren't seeing.
The younger missionaries have compiled an extensive list of all the young adults in our two wards. It will be an enormous help as we reach out to them. We have been going over the list and can see where we can do some reaching out.
We "attended" Erin's ward Sacrament Meeting. She was the speaker, and she did such an excellent job. Her subject was the course of study for the "Come Follow Me" program this year, which is The Doctrine and Covenants." Using three stories, she beautifully illustrated
We will make some deliveries tomorrow on our daily walk. We will just stand outside and converse. And actually that is outside of regulations, so maybe we will walk together and just one go close enough to deliver. At any rate, I am looking forward to being outside, even if it is very chilly.
I am going to start ordering groceries this week to be delivered to our flat. I think with the new strain that is more contagious, we ought to be more careful about going where we might be exposed. We have been blessed so far to have stayed healthy. Now the virus is making inroads into our ward. One man is in the hospital and several families have it.
I have been reading about the Spanish Flu. It came, it conquered and then it left.
I am hoping that COVID will leave like that.....but I have a feeling that it won't leave until we have achieved some kind of herd immunity, whether by a majority of people either getting the virus and becoming immune or getting the vaccine, which could be months away yet.
I still think that this will be fascinating to look back at - someday.
