Quiet Friday

We have taken it easy today.  We are both still tired from our driving marathon.  Not the driving so much, but the stress.  SK really does well, but he is tense when he has to drive in unfamiliar territory, with all of the differences between here and Arizona.  And I get very frazzled when he expects me to know more than the GPS.  I've wondered if a physical roadmap might help.  As it is, I keep my phone open to GoogleMaps and go back and forth from a larger picture to the small one on the car screen.  We still struggle from time to time.

Have you ever watched "Galaxy Quest?"  It is a very funny spoof on the original television series "Star Trek."  Sigourney Weaver's character is the only human who can communicate with the computer.  All through the movie, she repeats questions and answers to and from the computer.  In this scene, another character gets fed up with it.  I see myself as the Weaver character whenever we are in the car.  I basically repeat what the GPS says, sometimes in different words, but same idea.

We watched a mission conference today which was an hour long but so very inspiring.  Several young missionaries spoke for a few minutes each.  Their testimonies are shining bright in the midst of darkening days and discouragement.  Deb spoke and gave a wonderful talk about changing our vision.  She showed a short video....I'll have to find out where I can get it to share.  A man begins to see everyone with a label over their heads: "Just lost my job."

"My father passed away."

"I am so lonely."

"I need someone who cares."

"Just broke up with my girlfriend."

His perspective is changed toward everyone he meets.  Great little film.

Dave then spoke.    Dave his so amazing as a speaker and leader.  He quoted some signs, saying things like "Bah Humbug to 2020" "Happy New Year, and Good Riddance to 2020." Yes, he agreed, but consider the many miracles that have occurred this year when as a mission we have sought to find news ways to teach and gather.  The numbers are impressive.  In May alone, there were 250 people on date for baptism.  And the missionaries continue to find people hungry for the gospel message, to teach them online over a period of days and weeks, and then when rules ease, to baptize.

We had a lovely hour's walk outside.  52 degrees.  Ahhhh.
