Gentle

 This week has been so full and fulfilling and tiring that we haven't been taking walks!  We have had a Zoom meeting every day.  Today's was the last of the 3-day mission training meetings with Elder Kospichke.  He is from Germany and is called to work with Europe, which he loves.  We loved listening to him!  He spoke every day for at least 2 hours, in training sessions.  He taught and then asked for feedback, taught and then asked for questions and feedback the entire time.

We loved how he taught from the scriptures.  He has a deep understanding of the scriptures.  He took us to specific scriptures - depending on what the question was and then opened them up to us.  His wife taught as well.  She is marvelous!  She has a beautiful German accent, a voice that drops down in her throat from time to time, energetic, enthusiastic and funny.  They are a cute couple.

Today I did some more baking and then we delivered cakes to 8 YSAs.  Tomorrow I want to do more.

We covered about 4 miles in total and we drove.  It was somewhat stressful because finding our way around in the dark can be fraught with mistakes.  I think if we do any deliveries tomorrow, we will walk, and be happy to walk.  The problem is that it is already getting dark by 3:30 and it is just easier to do all that in the daylight.

It never got fully light today.  When I opened the curtains this morning I looked out at delightful mist and fog, which didn't lift til the afternoon, but there were so many clouds that it was kind of a cozy gray day.



After finishing our deliveries, I was on the telephone with YSA stuff for awhile and then a late dinner.  I am going to sign off here and put the Christmas tree up!  I have just been waiting for Thanksgiving to come and go before getting seriously into Christmas.  But now I am ready.  I'm going to put a Christmas movie on (the two DVDs we have here are "White Christmas" and "The Star."  I think either one will do nicely for tree decorating.

I love that song so much. I haven't thought up it in a while. It's a beautiful message. I wish I could hear that version you heard. Maybe he shared it with Uncle Dave!

We put up our Christmas tree today. Christmas trees, actually. Ed toted in a huge one from the garage, and I said, "Is that yours?" He said no, he thought it was mine. Turns out it came with the Castle House! Then we brought in the other half of the tree and saw that it would barely fit in the room. Then I went out to get my tree and I found a third little top piece of that huge tree! It didn't fit in the room. We moved it to the "great hall" and set up my tree where it was in the library. We put elf decorations on one tree and will soon decorate the other with all our family ornaments.

Putting up the tree is the nicest thing, isn't it?

yes....this may be my most favorite time of year. it is the softer gentler time in December when we have quiet time to do those really fun things - like decorate.

A Master Teacher

In the 1st Ward today, an 11-year-old boy gave a talk that was one of he best sacrament meeting talks I have ever heard.  He got up to speak and his head just barely cleared the podium.  He is small and has a shock of dark hair topping a cute slightly freckled face. It will be several years yet before his voice deepens.  He had his written talk, and he read most of it, but he was familiar enough with it that he looked up often and it seemed as if he was speaking from his heart. Going Home

  Fifteen missionaries are returning to their homes this week.  For this Saturday night zoom conference broadcast, each bore their testimony from their flats with their companions by their sides.  SK and I teared up many times as we listened to humble, sweet and strong testimonies.  It is easy to see the difference as they get close to their release date.  It they have been faithful, there is a maturity and a sweetness that is unexplainable. Here is a smattering of what was said: There is no growth in the comfort zone.  I am about to go home to my comfort zone...but it struck me that my old comfort zone is no longer comfortable for me.  I want to be in a growth zone. We left our flat way too early for my taste this morning, heading out to go south to Farnborough.  Forty-eight miles, supposedly an hour and twenty minute drive.  We got into some heavy stop and go traffic and it was closer to 2 hours before we got there. We inspected the two young sisters' flat, which was beautifully clean and organized.  They are cute sisters.  They had been in London yesterday for zone conference and excitedly shared all they had heard and been taught.  They had their notes out and were very cute to repeat some great messages from President Checketts.  I hardly ever talk to him when he isn't dealing with numerous issues in the mission and in the middle of at least one or two crises, and planning the next gathering....all at the same time.  It must be that he and Deb are in a constant state of stress.  But he has cleared the half-way mark.  I wonder if he knows how highly he is esteemed by these young missionaries, who ...
