Day Nine - Gratitude is the Key to Happiness

Let's see....what do I tell you?  Business as usual?  Did two loads of laundry, which took 4 hours.  Read from a couple of books and read some online sources.  mmmmm.  The temptation is always to eat.  I think of great things to bake, but then what would I do with the goodies?  Can't leave the apartment.  Can't have anyone here.  And I can't eat them myself!!!! No, baking is not a good idea.

I got all of the ironing done...9 shirts.

A certain amount of ennui is setting in.  Webster's says that ennui is

  • "blahs
  • boredom
  • doldrums
  • listlessness
  • restlessness
  • tedium
  • weariness"

  • I have to say that even entertaining those emotions seems the height of ingratitude, not to mention a kind of dullness.  We are comfortably ensconced in a lovely little apartment in a beautiful and historic town, with all of the necessaries we could desire, and more at just a computer click away.  We are back where we have longed to be, we will soon be with people we have come to value and treasure.  We have each other.  And we have so much to look forward to in the coming week alone.

  • Dave and Deb will drop off a car to us tomorrow.  On Wednesday the 16th, we will meet Dave and Deb for dinner about an hour's drive from here.  It is his birthday, and we will meet in a stately old structure that sits on 300 acres of landscaped woods and gardens.  It is now a hotel and restaurant.  That will be our official "coming out" party if we can call it that in these times.  It will be exactly the end of 14 days.  But shhhhh...don't tell Dave!  It's a surprise.

  • What's not to love about all of those things?

  • Boris Johnson has declared it to be law now that no more than 6 are to gather together - in homes, restaurants, parks etc.  There will be a 100 pound fine for the first infraction, and it gets markedly steeper after that.  So we will be trying to figure out how to meet with the YSAs or young missionaries here in our place with no more than 4 others at a time.

  • There....just writing about all that made the ennui disappear!  You just can't beat counting your blessings for lifting your mood.
