Good Reading

After a late night call with Elder and Sister Call last night, it was difficult to go to sleep.  We talked about the assignment President Checketts had given the four of us to come up with a study program for the mission to work on for the next few months.

He asked us to blend The New Testament and Jesus The Christ by Talmage into a course of study for the next four months.  It sounded daunting....because he would like to introduce it to the mission on next Tuesday!  I thought that sounded like it would be a lovely project to immerse ourselves in, but four days just seemed like too little to prepare anything.

When we talked to the Calls, they thought we ought to have it ready by Friday morning so that President Checketts could review it and if necessary send it back to us for revisions.  It sounded good to us, so that is what we have been doing the entire day (with some time off for laundry and taking the Christmas decorations down).

Both SK and Sister Call felt that if it is going to be a reading program about the book Jesus the Christ, then why not just read the book!  Our reading schedule will be relatively simple.  We each took 11 chapters, read them, found an appropriate corresponding scripture in The New Testament, and are in the process of compiling now.

Sister Call was a rocket scientist in her former life and is a wiz at all kinds of things, so she is doing the spread sheet - which is probably nothing like designing rockets.

SK and I also worked on a list of suggestions about how it could be implemented and encouraged, but of course that isn't really our assignment.  It will require reading anywhere from 4 to 8 pages a day.  The pages are relatively small since we are looking at the paperback missionary edition.  We will be done in May.  Falling behind could be really disheartening, so we made some suggestions about to keep motivated if that were to happen.  If you miss two days, that is a potential of 24 pages just to catch up.

It is an excellent book, and will be a course of study, along with the church-wide "Come Follow Me - The Book of Mormon."

It's going to be a great year!
