Taking the Day Off
I returned to the sisters' flat this morning as soon as it got light....about 8:30, and I use the term "Light" with some reserve. It was raining and it was still kind of dark. To be honest, I don't know if the sun was too tired to make an appearance, or if it is just taking longer for it to come up, or perhaps the rain clouds got in the way.
I helped them scour out the offending microwave oven, and I kind of think that it will never be the same. It is permanently discolored on the inside. It appears to still work, but the acrid smell of burned food may never completely dissipate. They were both tired. I don't think the air mattresses were very comfortable, and they were both rattled from the events of the night before.
It is certainly like something everyone has done. We can all look back and be grateful that our mistakes didn't cause more trouble than they did. But they were feeling kind of low about it this morning. I left them with a few pound coins to go to the laundromat and get all the clothes done at once.
Then I came home in the rain, thinking this is a glorious place. I got inside where SK was still sleeping and I curled up on the couch and read!.....which made everything seem more glorious. A friend here loaned me a large tome about the history of Britain. I have been putting off reading it. As much as I love history, it just looked daunting.
I was pleasantly surprised. It is very interesting and I enjoyed a couple of hours with it. I worked on the lesson for tomorrow night's Institute class. We might have 3 or 4 people there....we might have none. But the regular teachers (all 3) are unable to make it, and it is the last Institute of the year. So SK and I will teach.
I did an online search for some ingredients for something I want to make for Dave for Christmas, and realize I may not be able to do it after all. I think tomorrow we'll head out on foot for some shops that aren't too far from here.
I called my sister and we talked for an hour!!! It was so wonderful to catch up on her life and the lives of her children. I so admire her and her many talents. She puts on a community musical production once a year which involves a couple hundred people, and its amazing.
We actually had a couple of errands to run, but it is cold and raining outside....and we looked at each other and said, "Tomorrow!"
It is 8 p.m. Just enough time to iron for awhile. It has been such a relaxing day!
